OUR STORY
Discover the story of Inverroche, where heritage, craftsmanship, and
the wild beauty of fynbos come together in every bottle.
OUR ORIGIN
As the pioneers of South African craft gin, Inverroche Distillery was founded by Lorna Scott and her family. Growing from strength to strength in the local community of Stilbaai in the Western Cape of Southern Africa.
OUR JOURNEY
The distillery has grown from a small home industry to a flourishing and pioneering craft distillery. A distillery that is invested in its community and producing world class gins and spirits.
The Fynbos Gallery
A living legacy, distilled.
The Cape Floral Kingdom is the smallest of the world’s six recognised plant kingdoms – yet it holds the greatest diversity. H ere, life thrives in miniature, with more plant species on Table Mountain than across the whole of Great Britain.
Fynbos has endured for millennia. It’s thought to be one of the oldest ecosystems on Earth – a cradle of biodiversity, shaped by wind, sea mist, fire, and time.
With over 9 000 known species – and new ones still being discovered – fynbos offers an extraordinary spectrum of aromas, flavours, and therapeutic properties. Each plant tells its own quiet story.
Some scientists believe that early humans who lived along the Cape coast adapted and thrived because of the nutrition and medicinal benefits fynbos provided. It’s part of the evolutionary story – of who we are, and how we came to be.
Dry summers. Wet winters. Shifting sands. Soils rich in minerals and shaped by fire. Limestone, in particular, plays a quiet role – holding moisture from winter rains, helping fynbos survive the warmth of summer. Fynbos doesn’t just survive here – it flourishes. It’s in this wild beauty that Inverroche finds its muse.
At Inverroche, fynbos isn’t just an ingredient – it’s a relationship. We harvest respectfully and regenerate through our own nursery, ensuring this rare and precious biome continues to thrive.
Each Inverroche gin reflects the land it comes from. The fynbos we use gives our spirits their unmistakable character – layered, complex, and completely unique to the Cape.
THE DISTILLATION JOURNEY
From hand-harvested fynbos to final distillation, every drop is a tribute to time, nature, and craft. This is where heritage meets innovation, By Nature.
The Cape Floral Kingdom is one of only six such biomes in the World. It is the smallest, but also the richest and most abundant with more species of plant being found on the slopes of Table Mountain than in all of Great Britain! It is these plants, known as fynbos, that we use to give our gins their unique character and flavour.
We source citrus, spices, and botanicals from nearby farms and trusted local partners – ensuring every element is vibrant, fresh, and of the highest quality. Even our orange zest carries the warmth of the sun and the soul of the Southern Cape.
At the heart of our distillery stands Magnanimous Meg, a custom-built copper pot still where flame meets fynbos. Just like her namesake, Mini Meg – Lorna’s original pot still with which she developed the recipe, each small batch is a labour of precision, gently coaxing out layers of flavour and character with every distillation.
Our founder, Lorna Scott, developed the very first Inverroche gin in her kitchen – blending wild fynbos and global botanicals into what became the world’s first amber-coloured fynbos gin. It was the beginning of a quiet revolution in African craft spirits.
Today, Master Distiller Andrea Francis carries that pioneering spirit forward. Her intuitive approach and technical mastery ensure each variant is a true reflection of our terroir – crafted with intention and care.
Each bottle is finished by hand, from the final fill to the label placement and seal. It’s a ritual of craft and pride that connects every bottle to the people behind it.
The result is more than just a spirit – it’s a layered and complex expression of nature, culture, and craft. By nature, Inverroche is made to be sipped, savoured, and shared – across tables, countries, and moments around the world.
